12th World Naked Bike Ride, San Francisco, 2015-06-13

The riders at this latest San Francisco WNBR were meeting at a very limited space, congested with locals and tourists, as well as passengers from harbor ferries. Persons and bicycles competed for space between a busy sidewalk and the harbor fence.

Having been chased away in April from across the street – the Embarcadero – by a Recreation and Parks SS nasty, we settled for a narrow area between the Ferry Building and a Starbuck’s café.

The Port of San Francisco has jurisdiction over that area, but no Port Authority cops showed up, and thus we could luckily proceed with the 12th WNBR in San Francisco.

Among many repeat riders, Jeff, George and Lloyd were there, of course, but it was all a very late affair. Only a few guys came between 11:00am and 12:00 noon, but by then we had finally a dozen. All were advised not to undress until shortly before departure, as some cantankerous and antisocial individual might call the Harbor Police to complain about nudity. We didn’t want any unfortunate incident to spoil the fun on our first gathering at this new location.

So, with the grouping having grown to about two dozen by 12:40pm, our fearless leader Jeff suggested that now was the time to undress and pose for group pictures in the gorgeous sunshine we were enjoying here at the Bay. The crowded location made for less then ideal group photos, but now the bicycle riders were being lined up by Jeff, on the sidewalk, and at about 12:50pm the two dozen riders took off.

Nearly all riders rode nude, and among them was one single female, topless. The route through the city was different this time, and it was also modified while en route, but both a Ben & Jerry ice cream store visit, and later hot coffee at the Café Cantata made the riders feel good, especially the coffee, as the weather had turned cool and windy in the western part of the city.
