Nude Golf International at Wairau Valley Golf Course

Sunday 21 February 2010, twenty keen golfers participated in the inaugural Nude Golf International at the scenic nine hole Wairau Valley Golf Course. During the week prior the organisers Kay Hannam and Brian Williams received a positive response from media with several national dailies and internet news agencies from other countries running the story. A number of businesses and ‘locals’ donated prizes for the fundraiser to assist the Wairau Valley Fire Station purchase their special first aid kit for their first response vehicle. Again the Marlborough Express fronted up on the course to record the event and syndicated the news to all national dailies.


High temperatures on the day meant the drinks trolley had a strong presence on the grounds with golf club members on hand to serve lunch and liquid refreshments during the Stableford match. Club Captain Tim Latter, who organised the tournament, announced the winner, Bruce, a first time naturist from Christchurch, who was presented with the magnificent trophy and a selection from the prize table.


The good news is that planning is in hand for next year’s events. The Nude Golf International will follow the Nudie Foodies Sounds Adventure which is to be held on 18th to 20th February 2011 – this time an Ambrose Tournament. For the non-golfers, what could be better than a wine tour by luxury coach, sampling Marlborough’s best wines.
