Creuse Nature

I'd agree with the first review about the warm welcome!

Camping Creuse Nature is a naturist site, between Boussac and Genhouillac, just off the D15. Unlike a lot of naturist sites, the site is not far from the road, so there is very easy access. Reception was very welcoming, and extremely friendly and there is a lot of tourist information available from the reception building. This is a Dutch owned site, and there are a lot of regular helpers, both Dutch and British, who cheerfully assist with tasks around the campsite. There is free WiFi – which seems to be accessible in all areas of the site! Bikes can be hired from reception

The site is set in and around clearing in woodland. Some pitches are in the woodland, some around the edges, some are very shady, some in more open positions on grassy areas in the centre of the site. Some are irregularly shaped, some very large, some smaller. There is a lake, with some pitches in the open grassed areas around the lake. Hook-ups are plentiful around the site. Towards the top of the site is an attractive circular ‘services’ building, which contains the bar and restaurant, an indoor swimming pool, sauna (free and open from late afternoon to 10. 00 pm), and the main sanitary facilities. There are other smaller blocks in the wooded areas at the top of the site, including a unit with disabled facilities. The showers and basins are all open plan – naturist style, but I would have preferred at least some private facilities. The sanitary areas are functional, tiled, and immaculately clean but perhaps not up to the ‘shiny and new’ standards now being achieved on some naturist sites. There are mobile homes, chalets, and Eco-lodges (lovely!) to rent.

There is a lovely outdoor pool, overlooked by the bar and restaurant terrace. There is disabled access to the pool, and the pool itself was warm and inviting with a sunbathing terrace and loungers. The indoor pool is open until 10. 00 pm – and was very nice in the evenings. There is a paddling pool for children, and several play areas around the site. The restaurant does a daily ‘menu’ which has to be booked in advance, and is well supported. There is a take-away doing simple food – the chips looked delicious! In high season there is a small Superette on the site. A bread van visits daily and alerts campers with a toot of his horn. There is a once weekly visit from a mobile pizzeria in low season.

The site runs a wide range of interesting activities throughout the season, pottery, art classes, sculpting, yoga, and many other ‘specials, including a Jazz week, even during low season. There is a friendly weekly bonfire and sing-along, where drinks are available. There is fishing in the lake. This is a site with a lot of wildlife – animals in the fields and woodland around the site, a wide variety of song birds in the woodland (tame enough to visit pitches – including the tamest Jays I’ve ever seen), and there are birds of prey overhead, frogs, newts, salamanders, and water birds around the lake. There are woodland walks all around the site, very nice and shady on a hot day!

The area around Creuse Nature is pretty, but unspectacular, and the town of Boussac has an interesting castle, with a link to the writer George Sand. The ‘Pierres Jaumatres’ are worth a visit (huge balanced rock formations). There is a Parc de Loisirs at the bottom of the woodland walk near the stones, with activities in the trees, and a good bar and restaurant. Toulx Ste Croix has a viewing tower where you are said to be able to see seven different Departements of France. Toulx seems a very strange place, harking back to the forties, and very quiet – almost deserted when we visited. Maybe it’s different in the summer. We perhaps like ‘wilder’ France, but this is an area that many people will enjoy.

The site is well situated for a stop-over on the way south, or on a return home as well as for a longer visit. The site was hosting a Sun Trekkers rally, so there were a lot of British people there when we visited in June 2012.

The site accepts the ACSI card at the 16 euros rate (2012), from 1st April until 7th July, and then again from 25th August to 31st October.

well we turned up without booking and was given a beer straight away whilst they got the paperwork ready, what a welcome

what a wonderful relaxing time we had at creuse ,boussac. we had a choice of pitch , which i love,loads of space, electric if we wanted or no charge if we didnt. great pool and pool terrace to sunbathe
the central yurt like facilities were very family friendly,plugs and mirrors to do your hair,
you could put your name down for evening meal and join everyone like a big party the chef even came out to give us a song after he,d finished
we walked into boussac for a coffee and what a fab little town it is.
we will definitley go again.
